DS Automotive.
The literary collections.

An immersive CMF exploration that translates narrative worlds into material, finish and color strategies for premium automotive interiors.

Luxury is perceived before it is understood. It arrives as surface, finish, and the weight of a detail before the mind has time to read it as intention. The challenge in this work was not aesthetic expression, but the orchestration of desirability at scale: every CMF decision had to survive translation from studio to production without losing precision.

Over two consecutive annual cycles, I collaborated with DS Automobiles team to translate the literary universes of Jules Verne and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry into a CMF  strategy and tangible interior experiences. The challenge was to move beyond literal illustration, instead extracting emotional and symbolic cues from each author’s work to define distinct material atmospheres.

For the Saint-Exupéry Collection, I designed a “Speedform” logo inspired by the P38 Lightning aircraft, integrating the polar star into sidemarkers and door sills. Original sketches by the author were adapted for manufacturing tooling, bridging heritage with industrial precision.

For the Jules Verne Collection, we developed  the “Bleu Éternel,” a deep blue tone engineered for luminosity, balanced by a new “Pearl” hue for dashboards. All developments utilized Alcantara® with laser-engraved graphics, ensuring that every texture and color shift reinforced the narrative while strictly adhering to automotive production constraints.

Strategic Takeaway

Anchoring material choices in narrative cues elevates the product experience beyond aesthetics, fostering a story-driven connection between user and brand. This approach allows to tailor luxurious interiors across market segments without compromising cost efficiency.
